Philip J. Murphy, Managing Partner

Phil Murphy is the managing partner of Murphy, Miller & Baglieri, LLP. As a demonstrated leader, Phil sets the tone for the direction and operations of the firm. He formerly served as the co-head of JH Cohn, LLP's (now Cohn Reznick) Accounting and Audit Department and headed up the Videre Group’s M&A practice (which merged into JHC). His practice focus is providing core professional services to middle market clients. He also has significant expertise in mergers and acquisitions. He devotes substantial time to the distribution and manufacturing industries, providing services to companies with various needs, including financial statement audit and analysis.

Phil has worked with clients in a wide variety of industries over his career. He brings significant M&A experience through his technical expertise to middle market companies, investment banking and private equity firms. Such services include quality of earning engagements, due diligence, succession planning, tax consulting, financial structuring and transaction negotiation. During 2021 he actively participated in several transactions including the food, wholesale, manufacturing and distribution industries on both the buy and sell side and closed approximately $150M in transaction value. During his 30 years of involvement in the M&A arena, he has been involved in transactions of all types. He is also an active participant and founding member of a “Think Tank” consisting of elite NJ/NY M&A experts who meet monthly.
Phil is a member of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and has served as president of the Bergen Chapter, which consists of over 2,200 CPAs. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Consistent with his focus on education, Phil has been featured in various speaking engagements including New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, The Commercial Finance Association, The Record, many bank and financial institutions and ICLE, at the second annual Business Law Symposium, which is New Jersey’s Institute for Continuing Legal Education. He was a frequent participant in the United Artists Tax Mailbag Series. He also participated in a cooperative effort with the Bergen Record, Northern New Jersey’s largest newspaper, to produce the Tax Mailbag column, and has been featured on The Ron Thomas Small Business Forum on WNYE Radio, 91.5 fm. He has authored numerous articles for a number of trade publications and also taught selective topics at Seton Hall University's Center for Entrepreneurial Studies program at the Stillman School of Business.
Phil is a deserving past recipient of the “Heart of Gold” award.  The award is presented to select people and organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the Volunteer Center of Bergen County. Their commitment is measured by both volunteer involvement and financial support over the long term.  Mr. Murphy has chaired the Bergen Bike Tour for twenty years and has generated nearly $1.5 million for the Volunteer Center of Bergen County and Tomorrows Children’s Fund. Phil has also served as the Varsity Head Coach for the Indian Hills High School Boys Ice Hockey Team from 2001 through 2014. He was named "Coach of the Year" by the Newark Star Ledger in 2005. 
Mr. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
